INTIMACY COACHING/SEX THERAPY

So What Exactly is Sex Therapy?

When you look at the definition of sex therapy— “counseling or other therapy which addresses a person’s psychological or physical sexual problems,” it seems vague and ambiguous. Sex therapy is about human identity. If you had pie graph and one slice was the entire pie besides one little sliver, the big slice would be our sexual identity. Why? Easy. Our sexual identities make up most of our lives; how we express our gender, sexual behaviors, how we relate to others, our intimate relationships, even the language we use. And those are just a few aspects of our sexual identities!

So what happens when we go through sexual trauma, religious trauma, develop unhealthy coping behaviors, go through a hormonal change that we don’t understand or try to navigate the countless relationships we hold in our everyday lives? We struggle. We’re confused. We experience shame. Although regular therapy can help address shame, the way that our brain conditions our sexual behaviors surrounding shame can be destructive; leading to relationship issues, self-abusive behavior and even difficulty in the workplace.

Sex therapy or intimacy coaching is about becoming closer to your true self. Starting with the areas that need exploring. Perhaps there are areas that could be healthier or keep you from being able to function fully in your life or relationships. From relationships to better understanding our anatomy, clients come to sex therapy for many issues. Sex therapy helps align with areas including sexual pain, sex drive, sexual addiction, sexual dysfunction, pornography addiction, sexless relationships, partner communication skills and seeking a better sexual experience.

Whatever may be happening for you, let us help you navigate your sexual identity and find a more fulfilling life.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Intimacy coaching can help you address a wide range of challenges, including improving emotional and physical intimacy, enhancing communication with your partner(s), navigating sexual health concerns, and building body confidence. It’s also beneficial for those in non-traditional relationships, such as throuples or polyamorous partnerships, who are looking to strengthen their connection.

During your first session, you’ll have the opportunity to share your goals and challenges related to intimacy. Your coach will ask questions to understand your current relationship dynamics, emotional needs, and any areas where you feel disconnected. Together, you’ll develop a personalized plan that focuses on improving your emotional and physical intimacy.

Coaching sessions typically last 50 minutes. This allows for in-depth discussions, strategy development, and progress review. The frequency and length of sessions can be adjusted based on your goals and needs, and your coach will work with you to ensure the sessions are productive and focused.

Yes, coaching sessions are confidential. While coaching does not adhere to the same strict legal requirements as therapy, your privacy is still a top priority, and all personal information shared will be treated with respect and discretion. Confidentiality will be discussed in more detail during your first session.

Coaching is goal-oriented and future-focused, helping you create action plans and strategies to achieve personal or professional goals. It does not involve diagnosing or treating mental health conditions, which is the focus of therapy. Coaching is about performance enhancement, personal development, and accountability, while therapy often addresses emotional healing and mental health concerns.
